SAYING NO IN ORDER TO SAY YES

Spiritual systems comfort the worrying mind with promises of reincarnation, heaven, nirvana, and other concepts of eternal existence. Any application of logic to these systems reveal they are an unprovable, unknowable, invention of the human mind based on a fear of death. Without the promise of rewards and punishment to be dished out after death we are left to make the decisions that we feel will create the best for us. Life is precious because it is finite. Death is sad because it is infinite. There is no after. 

EXERCISE: Imagine the life you are living will be repeated a million times. Every decision you make and the consequences of each action in your life will be repeated by you a million times. Is this concept exciting or dreadful?

If that idea is exciting then it’s an indication you are living a good life. If that idea strikes you as a hellish curse, then it’s time to examine what you are doing wrong. The denial of desire that is the hallmark of established spiritual systems that have bled over into our modern non-spiritual society. As individuals and as a collective we need to examine the societal rules we follow and constantly update them. The UNIVERSE is changing everyday and our reactions should also change.

We need to embrace change. Rules and customs don’t change and so they must be updated or ignored. If we can push forward to the edges of the change then we can take part in the creation of the new. Creation is essential to being. We exist in order to create because creation is the birth of new, and the UNIVERSE is new every moment. So we are the most alive when we are in the act of creation. Embrace what’s next and don’t bother with the sitting and thinking and looking. Get up do things. Go out. Be in it.

The third mantra of THE SECRET TEACHINGS OF THE MYSTERY LIGHTS states:

“Salutations to that which I am capable of becoming.”

Within us resides less of a soul and more of our WILL. We are defined by this WILL because it is our WILL which leads us to create. The WILL moves us forward because the nature of the WILL is the change that is inherent in the UNIVERSE. Each person’s WILL takes them in unique directions. The WILL of one may conflict with the WILL of another. The resolution of those conflicts is society. Society also has a WILL, made up of all the individual parts. When the WILL of society is stronger than a personal WILL, the individual relents to the greater WILL.

The more you can say Yes to your WILL the stronger it grows and the more you become an active agent of change. In order to say Yes to your WILL you must work to eliminate the influence of other WILL upon you. This is why saying YES requires you to say NO. We know when we act on our own impulses and we know when we’re acting against our own judgement in order to follow the WILL of someone else or society. That feeling of discomfort, that we rationalize as politeness, is another WILL affecting our own. 

That is not to say we exist only to fulfill our own desires. Working to only satisfy one’s own needs is to worship one’s self, and as THE SECRET TEACHINGS says, “The UNIVERSE does not desire worship; the notion is absurd.” 

Your WILL is likely submerged. Friends, family, television, culture, and society all push down your individual WILL and render you unable to act. You end up being reactive to the changes of the UNIVERSE instead of acting those changes out. Let yourself follow your WILL. Move away from self denial and towards saying no to external influences. As you refuse the WILL of others you are left with no option but to say YES to yourself.

ASSIGNMENT: Exert your WILL. Seek out a situation where you will clearly be the winner or the loser, and ensure you are the winner. Ensure your WILL is stronger than someone else. The bigger the challenge the more successful the assignment. Choose to exert your WILL on larger and larger scales. Change someone’s mind.
